A developmental evaluation measures the acquisition of developmental milestones, which are motor, speech and language, cognitive, social, and emotional skills that are expected at certain ages. A developmental assessment aims at the early detection of developmental disorders, including attentional disorders, cognitive delays, language delays, and/or autism spectrum disorders. This assessment involves direct testing with your child. In certain circumstances it is necessary to observe a child in an environment outside of our office (e.g., preschool). These visits usually entail unobtrusively observing your child for approximately 1.5 hours. It will also involve a direct talk with his/her teacher(s).
